How to Get Connected to Mains Electricity in Portugal

An Agricultural Electricity supply in Portugal is provided to rural properties for the sole purpose of powering a borehole pump to ensure water can be brought to the surface for irrigation.

An agricultural electricity supply is relatively easy to get connected, however you will have to comply with modern regulations and have a secure and dry location for the metre and fuse box to be sited. You will also have to prove a genuine reason for the connection - irrigation of land for growing of vegetables etc.

However if you have a ruined house/cottage and are considering having an agricultural electricity supply connected it is pertinent to note, agricultural electricity is not a strong enough supply to power a modern day house even with the minimal amount of electrical appliances.

Be careful if viewing a property which appears to only have agricultural electric as it could be difficult to have this supply increased to a domestic supply.
