Bitches in Season

Unlike the United Kingdom, very few dogs are spayed or castrated in Portugal. If you have a whole dog you will have to make sure that you have control over him at all times to prevent him wandering and if you  have an unspayed bitch you will have to make certain that your garden is completely and securely fenced to avoid any male dogs entering your premises and mating with your bitch.

If you do have an unwanted pregnancy you have 36 hours in which to take her to the Vet for an injection to terminate the pregnancy..
