If you wish to keep up
with your regular soap operas or catch the latest
sporting action from the football fields in the UK, you
will need to have a British satellite system installed
at your property in Portugal.
Though you needn't
spend a fortune to ensure you get your favourite
channels. In Portugal you will need a satellite dish
with a minimum diameter of 1.2 metres. Previous to 2006
a 1.2metre dish would have been more than adequate,
however the satellite path was altered and Portugal is
now on the cusp of reception.
Ideally for the best
reception of all channels you should opt for a 1.8metre
dish. These are readily available throughout Portugal,
however you will need the right satellite receiver box
to ensure you can get your favourite channels.
Free to view boxes are
readily available within the United Kingdom and it is
worthwhile investing prior to your move to Portugal. It
is pertinent to remember if you signed up to a Sky
package within the United Kingdom for movies, sport, etc
you may not be able to do so in Portugal if it is your
permanent residence.
Even to the unfamiliar
tuning in a free-to-view Satellite system is relatively
easy. The direction the satellite and it's antenna (LNB)
must be facing is 28 degrees south east.
Unlike the United
Kingdom, where planning permission is required for the
mounting/erection of satellite dishes, Portugal is more
relaxed. Though in historic, listed areas of some towns
it will be necessary to seek permission from the local
council.
You may need to mount
your satellite dish on the roof of your property to
ensure it receives the best signal. In these cases care
and attention should be taken as accidents happen quite
easily. More often than not properties which are
elevated, you will be able to cement your dish and stand
into a permanent location within your garden.

Portugal who provide this service. They will not only
provide the right equipment, they will install the
system and even set your channels to favourites ensuring
you only have to switch on the television. |
