Dutch Tub on a mountain

Hot tubs in one form or another have been around for decades. In the 1970s the preferred design was a barrel shaped wooden tub.

During the 1980s and 1990s technology was key to hot tub sales with built in radio, cd players and televisions as part of the package.

However in 2002 a new type of hot tub was born.

The DutchTub, the brain child of Floris Schoonderbeek of The Netherlands, became the must have hot tub for the 21st century.

It's lightweight structure and innovative heating system means it is not only mobile but you can also cook your lunch while enjoying a relaxing soak where ever you find yourself.

The DutchTub has been nominated for many awards for it's simplicity and functional design and it's easy to see why. Once the tub has been filled with water, a fire, placed in a metal basket surrounded by a pipe spiral, heats the water inside the pipe. The natural circulation motion drawing cold water from the bottom of the tub and replacing it with hot at the top occurs.

This simple system will quickly heat the 200 gallons of cold water in just two hours up to a comfortable 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The manufacturers of DutchTub also provide a custom wok, on which you can cook your lunch at the same time.

Once the perfect temperature has been achieved, you can maintain it by altering the height of the fire basket from the pipe spiral one can maintain this temperature through adjusting the basket in the spiral, which determines how much flame is reaching the spiral.

Weighing in at only 165 pounds, the Dutchtub is the lightest hot tub available on the market today.

The manufacturers of DutchTub are keen to point out it is not just a hot tub, but a state of mind.
