Markets
in Portugal aren't just a shopping experience they are
sometimes the social event of the week.
People in rural
communities not only frequent them to purchase fresh,
local products, but also use it as an opportunity to catch up on
gossip, meet up with friends and acquaintances and have
a meal out. |

As well as stocking a
vast array of fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts, meat and fish, most markets
are quite diverse with furniture, plants, trees, clothes, shoes,
pottery, ironmongery and animals all on show and for sale.
You will also find there will be a variety
of different stalls offering a range of mouth watering treats including
Faturas (a strange donut like cake with custard creme filling) and
bifanas (hot pork sandwiches). |
