If you
have visited
Tomar in
central Portugal
on holiday or live in and around this historic town then
you will no doubt have heard of
Mouchão.
Perhaps you have seen some of the posters displayed in
the various cafes and restaurants throughout the old and
new parts of the town? But have you tried it?
If you have then you will know you've
sampled something special. The drink, which was created
in the 1970s by a Tomarense family, has a large
following. The popular aperitif is delivered by hand to
the various cafes, bars and restaurants which stock it,
each week by a member of the family
Despite the new tough EU labelling
laws which insist on every ingredient being listed, the
recipe for
Mouchão has
remained a tightly guarded secrete.
