Close to a wide range of excellent local facilities including Pombal Aqua Park and numerous superb river beaches, this detached three bedroom villa stands in a quarter acre garden. The villa has bags of character with huge limestone rocks plus ancient olive, fig and bay trees providing shade for long lazy days with the fridge close to hand.

The six metre long ‘Wall of Glass’ in the lounge, which opens onto a full length balcony, provides you with breathtaking views over the garden and to the hills beyond. The villa occupies a totally private and peaceful location on the edge of the village of Outeiro, yet is only a five minute drive to shops, bars, restaurants and a 40 minute journey west through a beautiful landscape of vines, orchards and olive groves to the stunning resorts of the Silver Coast.

You can also venture into hidden valleys and bathe at one of the many river beaches for which this area is famous, or away into the mountains where the stunning views seem endless, ancient villages cling to steep hillsides and towns nestle beneath medieval castles.

Notes on Accommodation

From the ultra modern kitchen upwards, the villa cleverly incorporates the bedrock on which it stands, into a stunning holiday home, designed to maximize the circulation of light and air.

This culminates in the lounge; a fantastic living space, with high vaulted ceiling and open circulation area leading to 2 of the three bedrooms and bathroom. This cool, bright, spacious room can be transformed within seconds into an extension of your outside space by sliding open the glass doors onto the south facing full length balcony with chairs on which to relax with a cold glass of beer or wine whilst losing yourself in the spectacular scenery.

An outstanding feature is the ‘bedrock bedroom'. This large room seems to morph out of the limestone boulders within. It is very private with its own entrance door from outside & en-suite bathroom. Beware, there will be arguments as to who occupies it! Aluminium shutters in all rooms can be closed at night to allow circulation of air.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

There are three bedrooms - two of which have been equipped with a king size beds and another with twin beds. The master bedroom (with king size bed) also has an en-suite shower room and travel cot. The en-suite shower room has a shower, toilet, wash basin, mirror and shaver socket. The main bathroom has a bath with shower above, toilet, vanity basin with storage unit beneath, large mirror and shaver socket. There is a huge amount of hot water for showers from our 150 litre hot water cylinder.

Kitchen

Spacious contemporary kitchen with granite worktops, built in ceramic hob with down lighting and extractor unit, eye level stainless steel oven, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine, coffee maker, kettle, toaster. Glassware crockery, all utensils.

Dining Area & Lounge

A door from the dining area opens onto the barbecue terrace with superb views. An internal staircase leads up to a huge lounge with sofa, chairs, coffee table, wood burning stove, satellite TV, DVD player with large selection of discs, Nintendo Wii.

Outside
Fly to our garden for a birds eye view! (Google Earth) Key the coordinates into the ‘Fly to’ text field exactly as follows 39 58 05.59N/8 28 35.81W

A beautiful natural landscape of ancient olive & fig trees with paths which meander between huge limestone boulders. Very tranquil and totally private with special places in which to relax. Our huge Bay Tree provides shelter from the heat of the afternoon sun and beer under the Bay is highly recommended.

A door leads out from the large dining kitchen onto an area with purpose built barbecue & plenty of space in which to dine alfresco and enjoy views stretching across orchards, vineyards, olive groves and beyond to the distant mountains. From here it’s easy to unwind and absorb the beauty & charm of this unspoiled region. If looking at the deep blue sky from a sun bed is what you desire most, we cater for that as well. Vehicular access is easy along a short maintained track from the village and the villa has it’s own parking spaces within the grounds.

Coast/Beach
The beautiful Silver Coast beaches are an easy drive of about 40 minutes. From the lively resort of Figueira da Foz and southwards to the quieter coastal gem of Sao Pedro de Moel, the waves of the Atlantic sweep onto miles of fine golden sand, un-crowded and unspoiled. There is something here for everyone; adrenalin-junkie surfers, beachcombers, lovers, and incurable romantics who simply need to experience the splash of waves around their feet whilst watching the sunset melt below the horizon.

Special interest holidays
Free illustrated guidebook. There’s nothing worse than starting your holiday with no idea of where to go - what to see and what to do. So to enable our guests to plan ahead we send a comprehensive guidebook of the area prior to your holiday. It is free for you to keep and is packed with information on things to do and places to visit, from golden sands to river beaches and mountain villages and includes contact details for activities as diverse as trekking, water skiing & surfing. It is illustrated with over 100 colour photographs and detailed walks, recommended restaurants, shops, markets and local facilities. We also include directions from Lisbon and Porto airports.

As one of our guests said last year. "Just received the keys and your book of the area - brilliant"! and others.... "Your guidebook was brilliant & saved us a great deal of time & trouble". "Thanks for your excellent guide to the area which was breathtaking & tranquil".

Travel
Many airlines have cheap flights from UK airports such as Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Gatwick etc to Porto & Lisbon. Flight duration is approx two hours. Then it's an easy drive of 1hr 40mins on A1 South from Porto Airport or approx 1hr 50 minutes on the A1 North from Lisbon. Roads in Portugal are quiet and well maintained and even the A1 is comparatively stress free. A car is of course essential but because there are so many places of interest near your holiday location, driving is not a chore.

Distances
Pombal Aqua Park (20 minutes). Ansião Swimming Pool (10 minutes). Numerous river beaches with changing facilities & cafe bars (within 20mins). Tomar, with Medieval castle and Large Friday market (35mins). Penela, lovely old town with cobbled streets rising up to its well preserved castle (15mins). Coimbra, historic city of culture (30mins). The Beautiful beaches of the Silver Coast (40mins). Conimbriga, Roman city (20 minutes). Wide choice of restaurants nearby. Free internet in Ansião (10mins).

Further details
The surrounding area is beautiful and diverse, ranging from pastoral valleys containing orchards, vineyards and olive groves, through deep gorges with waterfalls and tranquil pools for bathing, or to bare mountainsides with exposed limestone and miles of tracks and paths offering exciting opportunities for walks and exploration ( 2 x small rucksacks with sufficient room for drinks & sandwiches are provided for your convenience.)

In spring and summer months the ground is alive with wild flowers growing through & around areas of limestone paving which are literally ‘on the doorstep’.

When you first arrive, you can’t fail to notice the shepherds track which runs behind the back of the villa. It winds along, through and across limestone paving between dry stone walls & links with other lanes & tracks, ideal for an evening stroll after dinner or a much longer walk for the more adventurous.

Although the coast is only 40 minutes away, many of our guests have been quite content to use the local river beaches. They’re all located in beautiful surroundings and are a speciality in this area of Portugal, being incredibly well organised and most of them having cafes, changing facilities and toilets. Details of these are also available in the guidebook.

If pretty towns with castles are your thing then there is no shortage of these. The closest is Penela, a lovely picturesque little town, which nestles below it’s well preserved medieval castle. It’s an ideal place for an evening out, where you can sit as the sun dips below the horizon, taking the heat out of the day as a warm glow spreads across the valley and picks out the mountains of the Serra da Lousa away to the east.

We think that the most outstanding benefit of this area is it’s diversity, which enables you to tailor your holiday to suit the whole family regardless of age. The aforementioned free guidebook will be a big help in this respect and your only problem will be deciding what to do first.

Cleaning / Linen & Towels

The villa is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for your arrival. Towels and bed linen are provided free of charge on a weekly basis regardless of length of stay. All other amenities and facilities provided free of charge.

If you want this, please mention it at the time of booking. We look forward to your booking and we'll send directions to the villa via email or post. We're knowledgeable about the area and happy to answer any questions you may have.
