Palacio Nacional de Sintra, Portugal

The Palácio Nacional de Sintra, is the only surviving royal residences in Portugal, which dates back to mediaeval times.

The palace, which is situated in the heart of Sintra, is easily identifiable by the twin, conical chimneys which rise above the rest of the building.

For over eight centuries the palace was a royal residence and since the mid 16th century it's outwardly appearance has not changed much.

The palace was mainly used by the Portuguese royal family as a summer residence to be enjoyed for hunting. Inside the palace, which is open to the public on a daily basis, is Portugal's largest collection of Mudejar tiles on display as well as art dating back to the 16th century.
