A substantial three bedroom restored village house with garage, workshop and private garden for sale in Podentes near Penela in central Portugal. The property, which is set over two floors, has been restored and provides spacious living accommodation over two floors though there is scope to convert further parts of the building to create more bedrooms if required.

 

The property is connected to both mains electricity and water and has a telephone line installed. The property is situated in the heart of the village of Podentes in central Portugal and is set back from a cobbled road. The house is accessed via a set of stone steps which lead to a covered porch. The living accommodation is currently situated on the first floor and there are a variety of original and character features throughout.

 

The house has three good sized double bedrooms, all of which have wooden floors. Two of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. There is a large open plan living room with exposed stone walls, a wooden, peak ceiling and wooden floors. The living room, which is double aspect, has a log burning stove in situ. Off the living room there is a study area, which is accessed via a half set of stairs. The study area has exposed stone walls, a wooden floor and a wooden wall. There is a half set of wooden stairs which lead up to a spacious kitchen diner. The kitchen diner also has a peaked wooden ceiling, wooden floor and exposed stone walls and a log burning stove installed.

 

The kitchen has a variety of hand made wooden base level units with a large island unit. The kitchen comes with a gas hob, integral oven and large American fridge freezer. The dining area of the kitchen is spacious and large enough to accommodate a good-sized table and chairs.

 

Off the kitchen there is an exterior access door which leads out to a large, balcony at the rear of the house. This balcony has good views over the garden and to the forests beyond. The balcony has steps leading down to the garden.

 

There is also a fully tiled family bathroom, which has a bath, toilet and pedestal sink. The two en-suite bathrooms are also fully tiled and have modern style shower cubicles, toilets and pedestal sinks.

 

There is a large garage work shop to the ground floor, which is currently accessed via a large vehicle access door to the front of the property. Off the workshop there are a further two rooms which could be converted into additional en-suite bedrooms if required.

 

The property also has a conservatory which overlooks the forests at the rear of the house. The property has a private garden to the rear which measures 801 square metres. There are a variety of mature trees in situ including olive and orange.

 

The property is in good decorative order and is ready to move into though has the potential to make a great bed and breakfast establishment due to it's size and location being only five minutes drive from the town of Penela.

 

The property is situated in the village of Podentes, which has three bakery vehicles visit the village daily (except Sunday). A friendly (and cheap) cafe/bar and a little shop for basics.

 

The larger town of Penela, a quaint market town with market, banks, post office, cafes, bars, restaurants, indoor swimming pool, cinema (all films are in English with subtitles-cost approx 4€), is around five minutes drive. Penela has an indoor 50 metre pool and a children's pool.

 

Condeixa, lovely town with fantastic outdoor pools, Intermarche and Lidl supermarkets, restaurants etc, is around 10 minutes drive. Condeixa has larger outdoor pools and a cafe. Up in the hills above Penela you will find the natural lake at Loucinha which is free to use. There are BBQ and picnic facilities there and a restaurant which is open in the summer months. At Lousa we have another natural lake in the hills with a restaurant recognised as one of the best in the region.

 

The historic city of Coimbra is only 25 minutes drive from the property. The coast is approx 45 minutes easy and picturesque driving. Figueira da Foz is 45 minutes and is the largest resort in the Central region. The beach is quarter of a mile from road to shore and has various cafes and bars halfway between the two. The resort is really lively in the summer months as the Portuguese holiday here. Nazare is about 1hr drive. You will also find loads of unspoilt villages along the coast. We also have an inland beach at Figueiro dos Vinhos.


There is a nine hole pitch and putt at Quinta da Lagrimas (Coimbra) about 20 minutes away and there is an 18 hole golf course at Curia just north of Coimbra, which is approximately 45 minutes by car.


The property is situated almost midway between the international airports of Lisbon and Porto, around 200 kilometres to each. Both airports are serviced by a variety of low cost airlines which operate regular flights to and from the United Kingdom.
