Generally renting a property over a longer period of
time will work out cheaper than letting a holiday
cottage or house. Many property owners look at a longer
term rental as a more secure income and therefore the
rates are adjusted.
If however you are looking to purchase a property in
central Portugal and wish to rent a property on a medium
to long term basis it is prudent to note, while there
are a number of properties available, they do not stay
on the market for any length of time as there is not
only a demand from overseas renters, but from the local
market.
You may also find it more difficult
to find a rental property if you are intent on bringing
your pets with you. There are few cultural differences
in attitudes towards cats and dogs. In more rural areas
of Portugal cats and dogs are not seen as domestic
animals. Cats will keep the rodent popular down and find
a warm place to sleep, dogs are usually chained up on
the perimeter of a property to guard the house.
Very few property owners will
consider having cats and dogs inside their houses,
though attitudes are changing slowly, having your pets
with you may make you property search a little harder.
