Registering a Vehicle in Portugal

If you have purchased a vehicle in Portugal you are required to register it with the DGRN ( Direcção-Geral dos Registos e do Notariado). You will need to provide the following identification documents:

◊ Proof of residence in Portugal - either a residency card, property title deeds or a rental contract.

◊ Proof of road-worthiness (IPO test certificate, the equivalent of an MOT in the UK, which should be provided by the seller).

◊ Vehicle registration documents - provided by the seller.

◊ Proof of payment (to date) of vehicle tax. This should be provided by the seller.

◊ Registration Fee.
