What UK
television channels can be received, free to air (FTA)? |
|
The
following television channels will be received with a
free to air satellite receiver system: BBC 1/2/3/4, ITV

What size satellite dish
do I need? |
|
UK
satellite coverage is fairly weak here in Portugal and I
strongly recommend an offset dish of 1.4 metres
high. Commonly, installers will fit a dish of 1.2
metres high. These will work adequately on sunny days
but as the signal falls lower when it rains, this can
cause signal loss and picture break up the very time you
want to go in and watch TV! Please note - the
surface area of a 1.4 metre dish is 25% greater than a
1.2metre dish. So, you see it can make a great deal of
difference. |

What Satellite Receiver
do I need? |
|
There are 2 basic types of receivers available.
1st
Sky/Freesat receivers - these are dedicated for use with
UK satellite TV.
Advantages: Automatic
channel changes and software upgrades via satellite.
Programme guide.
Programme reminders.
Programme information.
Extra features when using
the red button.
Disadvantages: No product
support in Portugal.
Sometimes difficult to repair.
2nd
FTA Receivers
Advantages: Freely
available from most electrical retailers.
Disadvantages: None of the
benefits of Sky/Freesat receivers.
Need to be programmed to
receive UK Satellite TV.
Also need to re-programme
if broadcaster changes any channel parameters.
