Usher in 2012 in Lisbon's Magic Night

Are you keen on the idea of ending 2011 on a high and ushering in 2012 in style? Are you in need of inspiration about what to do in Portugal on New Year’s Eve to make it a night to remember? Then head to Lisbon on December 31!

The Portuguese capital comes alive on New Year’s Eve as locals and tourists alike come together to celebrate Noite Mágica, or Magic Night.

Finding a place to stay in Lisbon is pretty straightforward thanks to companies such as Eurobookings, which means you can concentrate  on having a wonderful time along with the thousands of other revellers who flock to the city at the end of December.

The streets in and around the Belém Tower become a hive of activity on Magic Night as a variety of different live music acts and a spectacular firework and light display wow the crowds. There are a series of free events, meaning you can party long into the early hours of January 1 without having to spend a fortune.

The best thing about visiting Lisbon in the days leading up to and directly after New Year’s Eve is the array of sites of interest you can also take in to make the most of your time in one of the most charming capital cities in Europe.

Like the multitude of museums and array of interesting architecture and buildings waiting to be discovered. Lisbon is a city rich in history and heritage and it’s well worth putting aside enough time to see the Belém Tower by day or have a walk around the Design and Fashion Museum.

Marvel at the weird and wonderful underwater wildlife on show at the Oceanario de Lisboa, take a tram down to Belem to spend a few hours looking at all the monuments and the beautiful cathedral and grab a bite to eat and enjoy a spot of retail therapy at Parque das Nacoes.

In Lisbon, the opportunities are endless.
