Christmas doesn't just come for one day in Óbidos in central Portugal, but for over a month.

The town, which has a fortified castle, transforms itself into a Christmas wonderland complete with Santa Claus' toy factory and elves.

Vila Natal runs each year and tons of fake snow are imported to turn the sun-kissed  town into a magical place.

Although aimed at children there is fun to be had for all age groups with sledge runs, ice skating rink and choir recitals. Vila Natal opens it's gates on November 28 (2009) and runs through the festive period until January 3 (2010).

Inside although the town of Óbidos is inside the castle walls, Vila Natal is created inside the fortified area of the town. Visitors whom do not wish to visit the festive fun, can still browse the town's shops, narrow streets and castle walls as normal. Entry to Vila Natal is 5€ for 12 years and over and 3€ for children aged between 3 years and 11 years. It is also possible to purchase tokens to see Santa, ice skating, pony rides, sledging and on the carousels.
